    * Ideas / concept of this code is not an idea that I created.  Several
      similiar programs exist (see below), but none quite did what I wanted /
      needed for the "network jack" (http://www.the42.net/jack) application I
      was creating.  So, I wrote my own which attempted to combine all the 
      functionality in the others, plus what I needed for my purposes.
